The lengths that I will go to to relate with my clients. On January 6th I tore several ligaments and both menisci in my right knee playing for the Snow and Carpio Soccer Team. The team (which I discussed in a previous post), is a collection of employees, family, clients, and friends of our firm.
I have filed the injury as a work comp claim. I'm still in the 21 day period that the carrier has to determine whether the claim is compensable. Luckily, unlike most of my injured clients, I'm able to continue working after my injury.
Although I'm not certain if the claim will be accepted, this injury illustrates the broad interpretation of what can be considered an on the job injury in Arizona. Although I wasn't performing my regular duties as an attorney, I was participating in an activity that benefitted our firm by the comraderie established by the employees and clients, as well as the publicity that the team generates for our firm. It will be an interesting experience to limp a mile in my clients' shoes!
